Here's a grammar question I've been asked by one of your peers, what's your answer?

What's the question tag for this sentence:

I need to start from scratch, ..............?
a) needn't I
b) don't I

for the use the same expression in negative form.

Thank you for your answer, Luis.

'need' is a tricky one because it can be used both as a modal verb and as an ordinary verb.

In this sentence, it's an ordinary verb, so we need 'do': I need to start ........, don't I?
If we use it as a modal verb (without to), then we don't need 'do': I need start ......, needn't I?
