Bernard M
Hello, I have seen this expression "if you'd like" several times. This form does not correspond to any conditional. Is this correct or is it totally informal? Have a good day! ljusto 1 Link to comment
Head Tutor Minoo Posted April 23, 2019 Head Tutor Report Share Posted April 23, 2019 Hello Bernard, You are right. These sentences don't follow the 'no would after if' rule, but 'would' is used to make the utterance sound more polite. So, actually, the degree of formality increases: Informal: If you want ... / formal: If you'd like ... I give more examples of these in the exclusive video lesson 'Formal Social Expression'. Have a great day, too! Link to comment
