correct tense

Dear Minoo,

I reviewed the live vocabulary lesson on 'Easily confused phrasal verbs'. When I was making the quiz I found a sentence whose "tense" was strange for me.

"You work too much! It’s time you took up a proper hobby."

I would say: "It's time for you to take up a proper hobby."

Could you suggest, which chapter should I review for getting a clear understanding why should we use past tense in this particular sentence?

Thank you very much for your help

Hi Magdi,

Great question!

Your answer is perfectly correct too.

To understand the answer in the quiz (took up), you need to review the topic 'The Subjunctive: Past Subjunctive'. The complete lesson is in the Advanced section of the Study plan, and there's a bonus lesson in the PDF library as well.

Happy revision!

Minoo
