Bernard M
Hi, Is there any order to respect when there are several subjects ? For example, do we say : I and Stella had been dating for ... or Stella and I had been dating for ... Thank you for your help. Bernard Link to comment
Head Tutor Minoo Posted November 14, 2020 Head Tutor Report Share Posted November 14, 2020 Hello Bernard, Yes, it's better to start with the other person/people and put 'I' at the end. Best, Minoo Link to comment
Bernard M
thank you Minoo ... and if the pronoum is 'he' ? He and Stella ? or Stella and he ? Link to comment
Head Tutor Minoo Posted November 14, 2020 Head Tutor Report Share Posted November 14, 2020 I have rarely come across this. I think we usually repeat the name. If you absolutely want to avoid the repetition of the name, both sound o.k. to me. It would perhaps be better to start with 'he' to keep it close to the name 'in the previous sentence that 'he' is replacing. Best, Minoo Link to comment
