Bernard M
Hello Minoo, English sometimes say "I better go", instead of "I'd better go". Is it correct ?. I've also read "I better be". Are there other common expressions like "I better (verb)" ? Have a nice day, Bernard Link to comment
Head Tutor Minoo Posted July 2, 2020 Head Tutor Report Share Posted July 2, 2020 Hello Bernard, I'm surprised that you have read 'I better be' somewhere because the only correct formulation is 'I'd (I had) better ...' Hearing it is of course very common because the contraction the 'd' in the contracted form is hardly audible especially before a consonant sound (b). Link to comment

Head Tutor Minoo Posted July 2, 2020 Head Tutor Report Share Posted July 2, 2020 Thank you for sharing this, Bernard! I've certainly learnt something! I didn't know 'I better ...' was acceptable in informal English! Here's a good entry about it: https://english.stackexchange.com/questions/236948/id-better-vs-i-better Link to comment
