A sentence

udesh

I found this sentence from A tale of two cities book. I cannot understand the meaning of it. Please can you say the meaning.

"Mrs . Southcott had recently attained her five-and-twentieth blessed birthday, of whom a prophetic private in the Life Guards had heralded the sublime appearance by announcing that arrangements were made for the swallowing up of London and Westminster."

Hello Udesh,

This is a tricky sentence and best understood in the context of the whole story. One possible interpretation is:

Mrs Southcott had recently turned twenty-five. A soldier in the Life Guards, who claimed he could see into the future, had once predicted that in the year of her birth London and Westminster would be destroyed.
