satratey
Hi there, "I got the pipe line welded by welder". Is this right sentence? Link to comment
PHIL73
Hello Satratey, I can understand what that sentence means but, after some research, it seems that this version is better: "I made weld the pipeline by the welder". But online translators are not perfect... (and I didn't even know the verb to weld) satratey 1 Link to comment
Head Tutor Minoo Posted January 7, 2018 Head Tutor Report Share Posted January 7, 2018 Hello Satratey and Phil, Satratey's sentence is correct except for missing an article: I got the pipeline welded by a / the welder. This is an example of the causative verb 'get', which I've covered in the latest exclusive video here. You may want to watch this for more information. Phil's sentence, as you have suspected it yourself, seems to be a word-for-word translation form French (faire faire quelque chose), which doesn't work in English. satratey and PHIL73 2 Link to comment
