Indeed, improving your pronunciation is really important for two reasons:
1. Everyone can understand you more easily.
2. Your listening comprehension of native speakers improves.

As you say, if we have learned English mainly by reading and writing, we are likely to have many pronunciation mistakes and difficulty understanding native speakers.

If this is your case, I highly recommend that you do the exercises and the tests in the 15 Pronunciation Modules several times.
